Simon Gerry was CEO of Newcastle University Students’ Union for over 16 years making him the longest serving Russell Group CEO at the point he stepped down in 2023, and is now an NHS chair and non-executive director as well as a coach and trainer. He was recognised as one of the Top 20 UK dynamic CEOs in 2022.
Working with over 100 Sabbatical Officers and collaborating with a multitude of other CEOs on numerous projects his success over so many years is well documented: commercial turnaround; launch of new ventures such as a microbrewery subsidiary trading company; delivery of a £9M capital refurbishment; re-writing governance and constitutions; and supporting and delivering 100s of Officer campaigns and manifesto pledges to improve student experience.
He brings over 20 years of Board level experience, and specialised knowledge in capital projects and project management, backed by APMP and Prince 2 qualifications and the delivery of numerous multi-million pound projects.
As a qualified Company Secretary his expertise spans governance reviews, business processes, and senior management structuring across multiple sectors including the NHS and the MOD.
Simon enjoys complex problem solving and providing a solutions based approach; he excels in areas like finance, interim management, and staff development and coaching, making him a versatile and much sought after management consultant.
